We have survived our first week with 3 dogs. Zoe has been a real trooper. Although, sometimes when she looks at me I get that feeling she is thinking, I can't believe that you brought another dog into my house.
Addie has been in heaven. It is clear that Lucie and Addie were meant to be together.
Addie watches over Lucie and checks on her while she is sleeping. They play together constantly and Addie has been dealing well with the ulta sharp puppy teeth that seem to always find her tail.
Addie has been teaching Lucie lots of valuable skills. Like how to shred napkins and play in the water bowl.

Lucie received a surprise welcome gift from our good friends Winston and Clementine!
Thank you soooo much dear friends for your thoughtful generosity! Lucie had so much fun opening her first box. All of the toys and treats were just perfect for her. Addie has already claimed the rope toy for herself. Lucie doesn't mind sharing.
At Lucie's first vet appointment on January 2 she weighted 10 pounds. I have to say we were a little surprised when our vet said, you know, if you would have asked me what breed of dog this is I would have told you Border Collie/Chow Chow. My husband and I were shocked. Our vet said this because of the shape of her head and her short fat legs. Even though the people that we got her from state that she is Border Collie/Great Pyrenees, doubt has been cast in our minds. So, we chose to complete a DNA test called the Wisdom Panel. It was simple enough to do. I purchased the testing kit online, took it to my vet for the blood test, and mailed it to the company. It will take about two weeks for the results. Regardless of what breed she truly is, we love her the way she is. She was meant to be in our lives. We will post the results once we receive them.
During her first week with us, Lucie gained 3 pounds and I can already see that she is growing fast. She will start puppy class in two weeks at Family Pet Care. Today she climbed up her first flight of steps. We did not expect that at all and will make sure the gate is up so she doesn't get hurt. Her little pink tummy is starting to show her Border Collie spots.
We learned this week that Addie will swallow a whole piece of rawhide just so Lucie can't have it. I believe the puppy excitement may be starting to wear off of Addie just a little bit. Addie lured Lucie outside when she was playing this morning and then left her out there by herself. She then peed in our bed. Ok Addie, we get the picture. Addie did go to doggie daycare on Friday where she got to play with all of her friends, but we will make sure to spend special time just with Addie.

I have a ton of pictures and videos to go through to share with everyone, but it seems there is just not enough time in the day now. My husband was sick last week and know I am sick so it is taking me some time to get around to all of our blogging friends. We hope you understand why we have not been around much. Once we are all well and have our routine down, it will be business as usual.
I love the first picture of Lucie sitting on Addie. They really do look made for each other, as you say. You must be exhausted. :) I hope Addie gets over her little bit of annoyance ok. lol.

Awww, sweet Addie has to take the backseat! Lucie is so cute! I don't know what I would do if I got a sibling! I would be so mad, & happy! They look like the best sisters ever!

Addie is such a good big sister! There may be a little jealousy, but overall, this furry thinks she's just making sure Lucie knows who is top dog! Lucie is such a cutie!! You know, my mommy found a puppy at a shelter that looks just like your girls....I wonder if it is the same breeds?
ReplyDeleteHope woo hoomans feel better!
Mya Boo Boo
Lucie sitting on Addie is so cute. The one with Lucie in the greenery is worthy of framing.
ReplyDeleteYour adventures with a new puppy sounds like mine! Huey ALWAYS swallows the rawhide WHOLE too - I think to keep the puppy from getting it!! And Higgins always has his lil'shark teeth on Huey's tail! The baby is cute!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get better soon!
ReplyDeleteIt is not fun to be sick!
Nice and yummy presents!
Glad they are doing so well!
Kisses and hugs

Lizzie went through that when we got Simon - he still won't stop pulling on her tail! Which is really rude since she can't even reciprocate! They will work it out though and be best friends... Congrats on your growing pack!
ReplyDeleteWe just LOVE that first picture of you and Lucie, Addie! It is so adorable!
ReplyDeleteWe agree - whatever mix Lucie is, she was definitely meant to be your sissy!
Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch
Hmm.. I find it hard to believe there is a remote possibility that Lucie is a Border Collie/ Chow Chow(that'd be one cute combination though). Sometimes puppies can look 'different' but once they grow bigger, they start to fill out properly and look more proportionate. Regardless of what Lucie's breed is, I am sure she's already found a permanent place in all your hearts. I love the photo of her sitting on Addie. Addie is such a great big sister!! (urmm.. other than the peeing on your bed part! LOL!!)
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that they are meant for each other. True Happiness
ReplyDeleteWe love seeing Addie playing with Lucie, Addie really good in handling pup huh. Please take good care of yourself, mom was sick last week so I know how suffering its.
ReplyDeleteslurpy licks,

Great pictures....so cute how Lucie is on Addie's back. And Addie, I can't believe you peed in the bed but ya do what ya have to do to get your point across I guess. ;) Have a great week!

Thanks for the get well wishes..I'm nawing on a little after dinner rawhide..yum yum!
love & licks,
Randi
The first photo with Lucie on Addie is adorable. I'm glad they're getting along so well.
ReplyDelete**Be careful with rawhide, it can cause intestinal blockages which involve surgery!
She is beautiful either way!
ReplyDeleteI have been watching Addie since she ate it. So far so good. I do worry about things getting stuck like that.
ReplyDeleteAddie is typically good about chewing her rawhide up good until yesterday when she stole Lucie's piece. We tried to get it back and didn't even think that she would swallow it whole. We learned not to do that.
Staci (Addie's mom)
Hi Addie! I know what you're going through. I love my bro, but it's nice to get some time to myself once in a while. My dad says all the Chow mixes he's seen have purple tongues or purple spots on their tongues. Take care and feel better soon...
ReplyDeleteLater!
Joey
Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteLucie is growing fast! Too bad the puppy-glow is wearing a bit thin... perhaps Addie should take a lesson from Zoe! She seems to be pretty calm about it all, or is that denial? BOL!
It will be interesting to see what the DNA test says. Can't wait to hear the results!
Wroo!
Holy Doodle Dogs! What a cute puppy!

ReplyDeleteYer pal Dozer
PS I getted two different DNA tests done and neither one camed back the same. Mummy thinks the one that sed I wuz part Poodle prolly wuznt worth paying for.
I hope you feel better soon Staci.
ReplyDeleteThey look so adorable together. I am not surprised Addie gets a little fed up sometimes... them puppy teeth are sharpe. Zac was a menace to Holly at that age. We called them his Piranha teeth.
They make a great pair though and i am pleased that Zoe is coping with the new bouncy addition. :-)
Take care and get well soon! :-)
Lucie is just too cute! And what a good sport Addie is being. Meeka told me all the stories about me being so annoying when I was just a little guy. I think he exaggerates a bit though.
ReplyDeleteECHO
Hello!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you survived your first week with baby Lucie! She certainly looks like she is right at home with your family!

I think Lucie is part pyranees--she has that white fluffy look. It will so interesting to find out. Pee in bed--bol my mom has had that happen! For the same reason, too. Hope all the humans feel better soon.

ReplyDeleteHi Addie
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed time with my little sister Tahlia when Mum & Dad first brought her home too. It wore off in about a week and then I had to remind Mum & Dad who was here first bol. Please tell your Mum that my cousin was rescued from a shelter listed as a bichon friese X which is what the vet told them he was. We later found out that he was a pure bred Coton De Tulor (or something like that) and he is a rare Madagascan breed of dog! I'm sure you will all love Lucie no matter what breed she turns out to be.
Big licks to you
