Remember Our Love

Today was a beautiful sunny day. A little chilly outside, but that was ok. We said goodbye to our sweet Zoe. At Smoke Rise Farms they have a gazebo where we got to see her for the last time. I placed a few of her favorite toys and a snack bag of pup-peronies with her for her new journey. Since this is Addie's blog, you probably don't know much about Zoe. So here is a little introduction to one of the biggest parts of our lives.

While living in Frankfurt, Germany, I fell in love with the Longhaired Dachshund breed.
Zoe was our first. Born in Hoxter, Germany on June 16, 1994, Zoe was a purebred langhaardackel (longhaired Dachshund). Zoe's registered name is Kelli vom Corveyer Land. Her father was Zwirn v. Anner Land and her mother was Kora v. Kleinen Muck. Zoe was an outgoing puppy. She kept me on my toes and taught me a lot. We spent countless hours on walks in the beautiful gardens in Germany.

Zoe was a well traveled little dog. She has been to Pennsylvania, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Las Vegas and Texas. In Las Vegas, the elevators broke down and Ron had to carry Zoe in her backpack up over 20 flights of stairs. K-8 joined our family in October of 1996. Her mother was an American Bulldog and her father was a Border Collie. In August 1997, we packed up our family and moved to Texas.

Zoe and K-8 had their little quirks that we will always remember. K-8 was terrified of bugs and thunderstorms. When a bug would get in the house, K-8 would run and hide in the closet until we killed it and told her that the bug was dead. And during thunder storms that occurred at night, K-8 would get in bed with us and sit on our heads. Zoe loved to swim and lived for treats. We discovered her love of swimming when she was a little puppy. We were out for a walk in a park and she just jumped right into a pond. From then on if she saw water she had to be in it. And treats... she knew exactly where they were kept and would open the cabinet door to get to them or bark incessantly until she was given one. Zoe was my alarm clock in the morning and always snuggled on my right side at night.

Zoe and K-8 were there for us through countless milestones, the good times and the bad. Neither of them asking for more than to be loved. And loved they definately were. We gave them the best lives possible and miss them both dearly. Today, Zoe was laid to rest next to her best friend K-8. We know that they are together waiting for us at the bridge.

We would like to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to all of our friends (human and furry) that have helped us at this difficult time. Thank you for honoring her memory with your very meaningful comments and tributes. We are blessed to be a part of this wonderful blogging community. And thank you so very much for honoring Zoe on your blog:
Thank you so very much dear friends! We would like to express a special thank you for the tribute video's created by our dear friends Paco and Milo, Aki, and The 4 Musketeers. Zoe was most precious to our family.

We will be forever grateful for the loving memories you have shared with us and we’ll treasure them for a lifetime. In memory of Zoe, I have had a star named after her in Canis Minor. The next time you are looking at the stars, say hello to Zoe and K-8. They would love to meet you.

Lastly, we would like to share a few video's of Zoe's favorite things...
swimming and her ball.

  4. I have been thinking of you often and wondering how you were doing. My heart aches for the pain I know you are feeling.

I watched all the videos - they were so lovely. It was very evident how truly blessed these two wonderful dogs were to have such an amazing home with you. They both knew it and showed it in their love for you and your family. It is clearly written in their eyes in each photo & video.

They are both there waiting for you and will be part of your eternal family - together for forever.

I pray for you, peace & contentment in the difficult task of letting go of Zoe physically while keeping warm the memories in your hearts.

  6. Such a beautiful way to remember your special Zoe. I am crying as I type this - the video of her swimming and playing with her lobster is my favorite.

*hugs* to your family. It's such a hard thing, losing a pet.

  8. Painter Pack Mom here. I want you to know that this tribute was amazing. The love you have for both Zoe and K-8 was truly felt through the words, spoken from the heart. If all animals could feel this kind of love, and all humans be capable of it, then this world would be near perfect.

The stars are shinning brighter now and although this has been a great loss for her family, Zoe will be waiting on you all atop a mountain of clouds and waterfalls in Heaven.

I pray that you all find comfort and healing. God bless.

  11. Hello,
What a lovely tribute to Zoe (and K-8)! You have so many wonderful memories with them both! My Owner Girl's name is Kelli! I can't believe that was Zoe's registered name, and my owner girl has a little sister named Zoe! My family and I have been thinking of you all and hope you are doing well. I'm sure Addie and Lucie are giving you some extra licks and cuddles to help you through. We will be sure to say hello to Zoe and K-8 next time we look at the stars!

  13. Hi there, Addie and Family!

Carla's here with me, crying like a baby. I don't think she can write much. She keeps kissing me and saying that it must be a great deal of pain loosing a friend like us doggies, who share so much with our humans.

Zoe and K-8 were beautiful and they were very happy. We'll remember both of them, here in the other side of the world, each time we look at the sky.

Thank you for sharing those loving memories with us.

  15. Thank you so much for filling us with more details about Zoe. We know that she and K-8 indeed lived very good lives.

You were the best pawrents and dog could possibly ask for and I know that they knew that as well.

We were very touched for the mention, but as khyra said, that was the least we could do for a friend. We are very thankful to have known you when we did, because for a moment, we were able to somehow join Zoe in the last few months of her physical life here on earth.

where she is now, is definitely a beautiful place and i guess, a better place because she was a good girl and she deserves nothing but the best.

take care always and we love you all!

  16. I'm trying to come up with something to say... words are escaping me. What wonderful memories. I was grinning ear to ear watching Zoe play with her ball... you could just see JOY in her eyes. She was so loved - by you, your husband, K-8, Addie and Lucie... and she loved you all.

You deserve mention to me too... having you in my life at this moment has meant SO much. I love you and the pups... take care!

  25. Dear Staci,

Thank you so much for sharing all the pictures and memories of Zoe & K8. I believe crying is the best thing for the soul and God knows I cry I all the time. I wish Mona & I could have met sweet Zoe in person but now your girls and my Samantha are together at the bridge and and I know all the other doggies that have gone to the bridge are with them now, partying until they can met up with their families again.

My family say I waste to much time taking pocturs of Mona all the time but I don't agree. I regret I didn't have many pictures of Samantha. That won't happen with Mona.

    God bless.....Sarah & Mona

The music was beautiful on the vidoes.

  35. We just burst into tears after reading about Zoe and then watching her videos.

All these wonderful tributes say so much about such a beloved dog...Zoe was profoundly loved by her people and her fellow dogs.

Our beloved Logo is up with K-8 at the Bridge, in the Border Collie section and they are showing Zoe where all the best streams and toys are.

Gentle kisses for you from Fenway.
