A Year Ago Today...

our K-8 left us.

And our lives were never the same.

K-8 was born in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Her Mom was an American Bulldog and her Dad was a purebred Border Collie. When we first met K-8 she was only a few weeks old. K-8's Mom came over to us and nudged my hand for me to pet her. K-8 inherited that same loving trait. K-8 was a Canine Good Citizen and therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International, Inc. She was loved by everyone that met her.

On February 23, 2008 K-8 was diagnosed with Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia. This basically means that her immune system was attacking itself and that she was bleeding internally. A short time later, she developed Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. This was worse that the Thrombocytopenia. The only warning signs that we had were a few red spots on her gums and a slight loss of appetite.

Even though we had the best Vet and medications, K-8 left us after a brutal two and a half weeks after she was diagnosed. This is in memory of my dear K-8, that I miss every day.

  8. Staci,

I have been sitting here ready about K8 and tears keep flowing. She was gorgious and it's obvious she and Zoe were a team. My Samantha loved playing in the bluebonnets and I see that K8 did too. The one regret I have is that I have so few pictures of Samantha and her antics. I envy you but am so happy that you have them all.

BTW, yes Pam has always had dreams and spoke in her sleep every since we were children. This was a funny one like the one where she said "whats wrong with that man, dies he have rice in his ears?" but most are nightmares where she wakes up screeming.

  10. What a beautiful tribute to K-8. I love her "wave" pictures. The one-year anniversary is hard. You've come to the right place to find others who understand how much you truly miss her. Our Freddie died over two years ago and we still put flowers in a vase for him every day.

    Your pal,
    Joey

  32. K-8, you had me at the Wave, the tears rolled hard from then on. The world was a better place for the happiness you brought to all those you met during your short time here on earth. You are a gorgeous girl. Some of us have many dogs in our lives, but only a few of us know what's it like to have the dog of a lifetime. I know that feeling, and I think you were that dog to your mom. Run free sweet K-8.

  34. We just saw the video and the tribute. This is pawtastic.

Mama can understand what you are going through. She had a miniature schnauzer for 15 1/2 years and she has been gone for 3 years now (3-11).

    Run free K-8.

    Love -

    Hershey and Kaci

P.S. The previous comment was ours because we couldn't watch the video before but Mama figured out that she could.

It is under special features / links and resources.

  37. What a loving tribute! We lost Felanie one year ago as well (plus a couple weeks) but I couldn't blog about it at all. It's still too hard. I know this was tough for you to put together.

I smiled when I saw the tiger rattle toy, though. Dozer had one just like that when he was a puppy.

And the blue kids' couch with the gold stars and moons! We used one just like that as a dog bed for years (from Garden Ridge--they stopped carrying it though).

Well, I am crying now. Memories are bittersweet sometimes. Your video was very touching.
