The Biggest Loser - Pet Edition: Week One

Welcome to the first installment of the Biggest Loser - Pet Edition!
The idea for this came from a comment that Stella left on our Camera Critters - Bones post. Stella shared with us that she was going on a diet too, so we thought that it sure would be more fun to do this with friends than all alone. Thank you Stella for getting my creative juices flowing!

Meet the Participants

Stella at 61 lbs

Kylie at 63.2 lbs

Suzuki at 36.82 lbs

Mason Dixie at 71.6 lbs

Tank at 25 lbs

Summer at 52 lbs

Aki at 80.3 lbs

Addie at 69 lbs

Our goal is to shed some pounds in a healthy manor and support each other in the process.
We will post weight updates every other week for a total of nine weeks along with helpful tips and fun ways to exercise.

The pet that loses the highest percentage of weight to get them to a healthy weight will receive a special prize! All pets participating will also receive a special prize! Except Addie, her prize will be the weight that she loses.

Kylie's mom had a great idea to get the parents involved too! For the parents out there helping your pet, we will award a prize to the parent that catalogs the most steps during your pet's weight lose effort. Remember, your pet must be with you for your steps to count.

Now, we know that a lot of our friends out there don't need to lose weight. But your support will be the key to helping us reach our goals. So, in addition to awarding prizes to the biggest losers, we will also award prizes to the most supportive pups and cats that encourage us to keep going each week! We even have a graphic that you can place on your blog to show your support. Just email us if you would like to receive it.

It's not too late to participate. Just email us your picture and current weight and we will set you up.

Tip of the Week
When  starting an exercise program, if you have not been exercising already, start slow.

Exercising with your dog not only strengthens the bond you two share, it also helps control his weight and maintain a healthy heart, lungs and muscles.

As you exercise with your dog, consider his needs and present physical condition. Leisurely walks may be best for an older dog while a young dog has ample energy for a vigorous exercise program.

If your dog has more energy to expend than you do, teach him to fetch a ball or a flying disc. The activity may be just right for you and a challenging exercise for your dog.

  2. You are doing such a great job with this! Woweeeee! If this had been a year ago, I would definitely have entered this challenge. But mom starved me (no she didn't!) - I got some help and dropped the pounds to a lean Golden weight of 63 pounds. Now I have to maintain, so I hope I can be a cheerleader? Arrrrahhh!!! A-rahhhhh! A-rahhhhhh! Three cheers for Lucie and Addie for getting this going!

  9. i don't think any of these dogs need to loose weight. Humans worry enough about this, just love them as your pets..give treats, take longer walks, love more ;-) and let our mom worry about her fat legs--saige and guinness

  16. we applaud you so much. we would love to participate, but just can't get our act together. mom can't get Baxter to the vet since he isn't sick and she doesn't have a job (no extra $$). we don't even know what he weighs, but we do know that his ribs are kind of hidden. we will follow along and cheer you all.

  17. I've already started exercising more and my between meal snacks seem to have dwindled to almost nothing. Every Vet I've been to has said I am overweight, but I've never been able to get below 24 lbs. I hope I will be THE BIGGEST LOSER because I want that prize!!! btw... will I be able to eat the prize? I think I will be very, very, very hungry by then:( To the pooch who asked if I would need a new name at the end-hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
maybe I will have to change my name to Slim!

  30. Oh my dog! What an interesting concept! This is PERFECT for Chloe. We will take a picture of her tomorrow & pee-mail it to you asap. Just to let ya know, she's been on a diet like 300 over times & her weight has gone down & up & down & up & down & up again. It's hard for her because she was spayed at 5 months old. But maybe this challenge will motivate her a little bit(I hope) & she'll be able to shed some pounds. Hehe! For me? I'm skinny! If only this competition started while I was pregnant & then I delivered in the middle of it, I would have been the clear winner. BOL!!!! But nevermind.

  31. Hi Addie!
I hope all the pawticipants do well on the Biggest Loser Pet Edition! I have a feeling that my vet is gonna tell me to go on a diet when I go see her in June. So I am gonna live it up and eat as many treats as I can. Then I might need to join season 2! BOL! Good luck everyone!

  35. We just found out about this - great idea. Tank is so adorable - he told us that those extra pounds are just to give more of him to love:-) Thunder is a big boy at 72 lbs. But the vet says he is just a big boy with a large frame and is not overweight at all. Mom still makes him walk a lot, have to keep him in shape.
