and had her back dewclaws removed yesterday. Our Vet and the staff at Family Pet Care made Lucie's experience the best it could be. They just love her and took care of her like she was their own pup.
Lucie had a long night coming out of the anesthesia, but she is going great!
She is the most pitiful thing in her E collar. She will have to wear it when we can't watch her or be with her for 10 days. If anyone has any advice on how to make sleeping pleasant in one of these collars, please let me know. We set up an exercise pen in our bedroom to give her more space than she would have in her kennel, but I ended up sleeping on the floor with her so she wouldn't cry.
I hope Lucie recovers well!
ReplyDeletePoor Sweetie!
ReplyDeleteOr should I say SWEETIES?
I khan imagine all the girls in the house are sad...
My furiend Holly The Mal's vet uses big plastikh paint bukhkets - maybe that would be a bit more sleeping friendly

Ah the wonderful E collar. Luna slept surprisingly well in hers. We would have to adjust her position a few times, but I think dogs are good about figuring out how to get comfortable. I'm sure Lucie will figure things out with some help from Mom.
ReplyDeleteOr there are inflatable donut collars that aren't so startling when they run into thing.
ReplyDeletePaws crossed that Lucie is feeling better by tonight.
Princess Eva
Poor Lucie. I hope you feel better very soon. You look so sad.
ReplyDeleteTail wags,

I must says that Lucie is really brave! hope those 10days pass by faster ...
ReplyDeletebest regards
Vodka
Aw, poor Lucie. You will feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever tried the inflatable Elizabethan collars? They look like life preservers. We used one on Trixie when she had her surgery last summer and it worked well; she seemed to find it more comfortable than the cone.
Hi, Addie & Lucie...
ReplyDeletePoor Lucie...Those Collar things are awful...I hated mine when I had my Girl Surgery...
My Mom says she really has no advice...Except she would take mine off when she was right with me & give me a break...
I hope Lucie feels better soon...
Lots of hugs & kisses for her...
Abby xxxoooo
Get well soon!

Oh Lucie still cries. I have to say neutering and spaying your dog is the most responsible things dog owners do. I read too many sad stories of dogs with litters found homeless. Anyway our golden girl recovered quickly. She was not supposed to jump but it was so hard to keep her from jumping.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon! E-collars are no fun and I don't know any way to make them better! :( Sorry!
ReplyDeleteWags,
Pruett and Daphne
Aww Lucie! Poor girl!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, your time in that horrible e-collar will be over soon. It's just there to help your incisions heal, ok??
Poor Lucie. Just the other day Mom saw a new soft collar at Petco.
ReplyDeleteDiego
Oh my! Hope she recovers soon!
ReplyDeleteI actually don't mind wearing my giant collar (but don't tell Old Girl).
Lucie, I hope you recover soon! Tell your human to check out the ProCollar inflatable Elizabethan collar (http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3185093). This might make your recovery easier on everyone!

Oh poor dear! Sammie had to wear one after her little ordealy thing, but she got a flexible one that could fold backwards and she seemed to do better with that. I'm not sure there's any comfy way to sleep with them. I hope 10 days goes quickly for dear Lucie and her mom and dad.
ReplyDeleteHugs xo,
Sammie
oh poor little Lucie. Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteIt just a matter of getting used to the collar. When I wored mine for the first two days I did not want to move in it and I hated it, but then I figured out how to move about in it and it didn't slow me down one bit. It good fun to bash into peoples legs and make them make the 'ouch' noise. haruffruffruff!

I had my Operation when I still lived in the Slammer, in a cage. Nobody paid me any tension so I just got over it pretty soon. I think if I would have whined and somebody would have come, I would have kept on whining, I'm not sure. Its nice to have company.
ReplyDeleteSo Lucie, you be fine in no time at all and we will be thinking about you!
Kisses,
Stella
Aww she looks sooo pitiful in that picture. We hope she has a speedy recovery! Maybe you can out on some soothing music for her to relax.

Oh the poor baby! She looks so sad. She doesnt look like a puppy anymore in that picture. She looks like the beautiful dog she is growing into.
ReplyDeletePoor little Lucie!
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad that sometimes things that are for our own good make us feel so crummy! I hope she recovers quickly!
:) Tibby
Sweet Lucie! Wishing you a safe, speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteI've never had to wear anything like that, but the thing Princess Eva recommends sounds more comfy than the lampshade!
Love,
Ammy

Hi, Lucie!
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon!
I had to wear one of those cones twice but I did not have problem to sleep.
Maybe one of those inflatables would make you feel comfy.
Take care
Kisses and hugs

Why did you choose to spay her so young? Is it the BC's or Pyrenees that have back dewclaws? Just asking because we don't spay Danes so young and they don't have back dewclaws.
ReplyDeleteHope Lucie is feeling better today.
Awe you poor thing. I still have my dew claws and my woman goods though mom keeps saying she might take that away soon.
ReplyDeleteOuch Lucie! i've been there-it's no fun...but you'll be fine!!
ReplyDeleteVelcro
OH little Lucie!! I feel your pain!! I remember just a few weeks ago...Woo will get through this and all will be good again!!!
ReplyDeleteMya Boo Boo
We are behind again with catching up so have only just seen this.
ReplyDeleteAww, she does look sad. We didn't use one with Holly but we did have to put a no sleeved t-shirt on her tied up on her back. Luckily that stopped her licking the stitches. She didn't have her dew claws done though so it was only her belley we had to stop her licking. It might be worth a try with Lucie though, even just at night when you are there with her. :-)
