An overdue visit...

This is how I like to remember Zoe and K-8. Having fun and enjoying their lives.

This Saturday the big girls and I headed out to Smoke Rise Farms. I had not been to see Zoe's headstone since it had been installed and wanted to make sure that it looked good. I had figured that we would hit a lake that was near by for some swimming afterwards.

The second that we stepped into the cemetery, the girls immediately seemed agitated. Addie looked around at some of the headstones and started barking. It was clear that the girls were very uneasy about being here. It's like they knew what this place was. Once they calmed a bit, we headed to see Zoe and K-8.

Zoe's headstone was perfect.

Once I was able to gather myself together, we walked around the cemetery so the girls could stretch their legs. It is about a 45 minute drive to get there. This is the spot where I said my last goodbyes to K-8 and Zoe. I like that you can see their resting place in the distance.
On our walk I was looking at the headstones and wondering about the lives of all of these beloved pets.  Some owners clearly wanted share their furry friends with everyone.

Since we first came here when K-8 died, I have been drawn to this monkey. Wondering about him and the many adventures that you just know that he had. Also, the impact that he had on someones life for them place this beautiful statue of him here. There is no marker just the statue. But it is clear that he was loved.
This family of cats caught my eye. True pet lovers here, indeed.

I just love how you almost get to know them just by reading these. I'm glad they shared them with us.

Just when I thought that I didn't have another tear remaining, I saw this memorial for Abby.

After we said our last goodbyes we headed to blazer. Addie was trying to get in the back of it before the door was even open! And Addie rarely gets into the blazer with out some coaxing. The second I opened the door, Addie immediately jumped in. Lucie following close behind. I know that they did not enjoy their visit very much, but I am glad that they were there with me.

  6. That's a lovely spot for your pets to rest. A little spooky about Addie's behavior though.

I have a box with Pooh Bear's ashes here in my office and I still take it down to pet it once in a while, over a year later. *Sniff*

  9. I bet Addie didn't like you being sad. We have a friend buried in our back yard and Mommy still cries when we go out there to plant and care for the flowers by it. We are lucky to be so loved in our forever homes.

    I wonder too....

K-8 and Zoe are resting with loved ones....
I would like to think that is one big play ground...and although unseen they walked around with you....
That is why your pups felt uneasy...

  19. The only sorrow she brought me... was the day she left me.

OK. I think I can stop crying long enough to write this - thank you so much for sharing this with me.

I am rather melancholy - it poured the weekend Mike and I were going to go to Rangeley to scatter Destiny's ashes at Angel Falls, so her ashes are still in a box, on my bookshelf, where I continue to talk to her every day. I think the Universe knows I'm just not ready to let her go just yet... but there will be a day, like yours, where I take my new girl to those special places to remember my Destiny.

HUGS to you - and belly rubs and pats to Lucie and Addie for being so brave. XOXO

  20. Interesting that Addie and Lucie didn't like it. I've never been, but there is a coon dog cemetery near where Old Girl grew up. She says it's very touching to see how loved and appreciated the coon pups were.
