Really Lucie...

With the Whopper wrappers making an appearance I was sure that we were on the way to better days. And then I got the call at work. "NOW you are at your desk!" barked my husband. I had left my desk for a minute to get a cup of water. Clearly a bit frantic he says, "you know your ice pack?" I had used an ice pack last night due to a head and neck ache. I forgot to place it back in the freezer this morning leaving it on a chair. "Guess who found it!"

Ron said he had a feeling that someone was not right this morning. He went down stairs and found Lucie sitting on my chair with the ice pack between her paws, licking her lips. She had punctured the ice pack and tasted the gel like contents inside. He read the package which states, if ingested contact a doctor. So he called me first at work. When I didn't pick up he called Dr. Johnson at Family Pet Care. We stumped him with this one and told Ron to call animal poison control through the ASPCA

Ron immediately the ASPCA. They charge a $60 fee for consultations but cost did not matter to him at this point. He told them what she had done. They located the product and all of its contents. The Vet stated there was only one item in the contents that could possibly harm her being a type of alcohol. Given her size, they said even if she ate the entire package she would only be a little drunk. Since it was a tiny bit the she tasted, they said she would be fine. Which she is perfectly fine. The ASPCA told Ron that they have deals with certain large companies which cover the consultation cost automatically due to the products they sell. 3M was one of them which was the producer of the ice pack so we didn't have to pay which was nice. Thank you 3M!

Oh Lucie, why all of a sudden are you taking interest in things that you could have cared less about a few weeks ago?! I have noticed that she gets very upset when Addie comes back in from her training sessions. Maybe she believes she is missing out on something. Her training sessions will begin soon enough. Or maybe she has turned into a teenager. Regardless of the why, my goal this weekend is to reduce temptation for Lucie and lock our house down. Anyone want to help??

  2. Since she is about 9 months, I'd say that she is starting to enter the long bratty teenager phase. As soon as her training starts, the mental exercise will help her not get into so many things that she shouldn't.

I know that I have to make a point of exercising Brice both physically and mentally, otherwise he reverts back to being a brat.

Good to know about the animal poison control fee getting paid by some companies.

  4. Hi Addie and Lucie and Hailey
I'm glad she's okay. Maybe she needs mental stimulation when left home. A tricky ball or kong filled with treats may help?? Mom spreads peanut butter on it after filled and I have fun pushing it around for treats after I lick off the pb.

    Just a thought.

  6. We are not experts on the subject but we think it is probably a combination of teenage naughtiness and much curiosity. Training classes will probably be just the thing for little Lucie!

  8. We know those episodes around here... Pipa did it all, too. She destroyed our hallway wall! A big hole in the entrance, can you believe it? It's a tough fase. But it'll pass. Don't worry!

  15. Oh dear Lucie! AFter almost 2 years, Sammie found that glove, which NEVER would have interested her before. So glad Lucie is okay - I would have freaked myself. Very happy to hear that 3M footed the bill though! We never tried to figure out the "whys" either - we just had to find places to store... well... almost everything! Garage, tops of high shelves and like Khyra's mom said, microwave and fridge tops.
    Hugs xo

  17. They really can put a good scare into us with their antics, can't they? sounds like she is just being a curious teenager. Glad she wasn't harmed at all.

  18. Sounds like youngster mischief to me. I bet she'll grow out of it. Dozer ate all sorts of things (mostly wood and electrical cords) when he was young. Crate training helped a lot. Dog-proofing and vigilance also minimized damage. Hope you can find a solution!
