Rimadyl

Yesterday I tried managing Lucie's pain as needed since her meds were already a little messed up due to her not being able to eat before her doctors appointment. She had been doing better but not totally back to 100%. She seemed fine. Both her and Addie slept after their walk. I did not give her Rimadyl yesterday. This morning she seemed fine. When I got home from work and took her out I could tell she was hurting so I worked the Rimadyl back into her meds line up. She has been sleeping all evening and is back to having trouble getting up. When I took her outside at 9 p.m. she walked a little bit and immediately laid down before she went to the bathroom struggling when she got up. When we came back in the house she headed up stairs to go to bed.

One day off of Rimadyl and she is right back where she was before we started the Rimadyl. I can hardly believe how fast her pain and discomfort has returned. I will talk to Dr. Johnson on Friday. I am thankful for Rimadyl.

  1. Mom says it is inkhredible! Some of our furiends take it (or Metacam) and their moms share the same stories -

It doesn't take long to see the relief -

  2. I was afraid to give Charlie Rimadyl when he had a joint injury, but I was very glad I did - it worked marvelously. Sending lots of Golden zen Lucie's way.

  4. Well, that sure tells you it is helping her. We had Dakota on Metacam for over a year and it sure was a benefit to her. Hope Lucie feels a lot better today.

  7. My 10 1/2 year old GSD mix has been on Rimadyl since her first hip dysplasia surgery when she was 3. She a shelter dog and has many joint issues, but still runs and plays like a puppy. Her liver tests are still normal. I'm happy to have this drug to make her life better. I hope you soon find the cause of Lucie's pain.

  9. My hearts just breaks reading about how much pain she is in. When Starr (our Weimaraner) was a puppy she went through really bad growing pains. She actually stopped walking for awhile and lost a bunch of muscle mass. It just breaks your heart to see them hurting, them not being able to tell you exactly what is wrong and trying the best you can to make them comfortable. :(

  11. I can only give advice from my personal experience with arthritis. If I don't move for an extended period of time it seems as though my joints hurt more. Similar to the thought that if you don't use something you lose it. It might be that when you are at work her joints are seizing up on her very much like mine feel when I get up from sitting. Once I am moving I do feel better as long as I don't over do it.

Do you have anything to help her walk? When my dog, Miss Leigh (RB) got very elderly I took a quilted placemat and sewed handles on each end with canvas strapping. It looked a lot like a purse with shoulder handles on it. When she would need a little assistance. I would slip the pad under her belly toward the back and then grab the handles - a lot like a dog purse, I guess. You might want to do something like this and have it on hand. It's a life saver and very comfortable for the dog.

I found that she didn't need much assistance but that the little boost from me made all the difference in the world.

Keeping all of you close to my heart in prayer.
