It seemed like a good idea...

...to Hailey.

Yesterday morning Hailey decided to go exploring somewhere that she knows she is not allowed.

Her best friend was not far behind her.

Given the opportunity, she would go up there again regardless of how long she would need to be brushed afterward to remove all of those little evil sticker things that were matted in her fur. Countless stickers had to be pulled from between her toe pads. This was not pleasant for anyone.

I don't know the name of the plant or weed that produces these horrible little sticker things, but I know what I will be doing this weekend. Anyone want to help?

  1. Hailey is so pretty, it shines through those evil stickers! If they are little bity stickers without sharp thorns we call them "stick tights." And it does take a lot of brushing to get them all out, so good luck! Her beautiful long fur is a perfect place for then to stick.

  2. OW! My first Golden Daisy got into a similar situation. She had them so bad that we had to take her to the vet, and the vet tech's ended up shaving her. Several of the stickers had to be removed by the vet!

  3. Hi Sharon!

    Yep, those are the ones.

You would think that we would know the name of those by know since we have had them in our yard on and off for 10 years now. We pull them out in the spring but this year they came back for some reason. Must be all this rain.

Hopefully it will stop raining so I can pull them all out.

Now I'm watching her like a hawk outside :)

  4. OH Sam that is just terrible!

These sticker things didn't have sharp thorns on them, they just hung onto the fur and caused matting which is never fun.

Hailey is a little drama queen so anything out of the ordinary and she is screaming like a baby!

  7. Oh my. I can see why you're going to be hard at work this weekend. When we lived on the west coast, we had tons of problems with "foxtails", sticker-like things that got into every conceivable spot on a dog, including fur, skin, nose, ears, and well, private parts. Our vet made a fortune removing them from our dogs!

Good luck this weekend! I'm glad that Hailey is OK.

  22. Wow when they found my sis Libby she was all full of burrs and stickers. The vet had to shave part of her to cut them out they were so bad. Now our humans try to keep her brushed and she's so happy to have a furever home that she doesn't run off.

    Wags...
