Happy Dog Mom's Day to All of Our Pup Friends!
Through bad weather, a cold spell and bugs, our garden is looking pretty good. We bought some red pepper, garlic juice to spray on the garden to keep it organic, we're trying to stay away from pesticides. I think it's working, we've seen a drastic decrease in the amount of cucumber beetles. They don't like it and the word needs to get around. Last weekend we smashed ~30 of those beetles in a single visit, now after a few days of applying the solution it's not uncommon to go out and see 0-1 of them around.
We had our first harvest last night, several sprigs of mint for mojitos, it wasn't much but it was something and tasted great!
If we don't get anything else out of the garden, those may be the most expensive mojitos ever made :)
Everything is still growing pretty well, I still don't have a clue how or when to harvest the stuff that grows below ground (onion, carrots and esp the potatoes) but I figure I'll research that soon.
How much longer am I going to have to wait to eat something else from the garden?
Introducing... our first tomato!
In order to ward off any new bugs we introduced a scare-Domo to the garden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domo_(NHK))
Sniper Lucie in position, standing by.
The garden is really coming on - its great to see the change from week to week. Murray's Mom loves mojitos so she was very impressed with the mint harvest!
ReplyDeleteHope the bugs continue to stand away!
take care
Clive and Murray
Can we come over for mojitos?

We have some great reference books that have pictures. They have made it so helpful. My suggestion is preview a few at the library before buying. There is lots of Internet info, but somtimes it is so nice just to be able to grab the book and open it for the info you need.
ReplyDeletewow. your garden looks great. we don't know much about gardening, but we did hear that a little bit of soapy water sprayed on the plants will discourage bugs.

I can't get over how fast the stuff grew.
