Doing Better...

Thank you for your suggestions!

I purchased the inflatable e collar.

Addie has been worried about Lucie since she came home yesterday. She actually liked this collar on Lucie.

Take a look and see how it worked...

Not as good as I was hoping. When I was inflating it I couldn't get the plastic thing to stay closed so I used duct tape to hold it down. She was easily able to reach back and touch her back legs.

Unfortunately for Lucie, it is back to the regular e collar for now...

Here is what Lucie thinks about this collar.

That lamp shade is like a megaphone! Addie is terrified of Lucie in this collar.
I'm going to ask our vet about the Rescue Remedy. It sounds really interesting. It is my hope that Lucie sleeps better with the cone on this evening. I need some sleep tonight.

I'm going to apologize up front for falling behind in my blog visiting. I really have my hands full right now and tomorrow we will have some very exciting news to share with all of our friends. I promise to visit as soon as I can. I hope everyone understands.

  1. Aah, the lovely e-collar. Addie will soon get used to Lucie, and not be so scared. Waldo also learned to adapt to sleeping in it. We can't imagine it being comfortable, but if they get tired enough, they'll sleep in it!

    Here's to a quick recovery!

  2. Poor Lucie girl! I hope you get feeling better soon. Those e-collars are no fun, but you won't have to wear it for long.

    Get well soon!

  4. So sorry that the inflatable didn't work.

You can also ask your vet about using a anti-lick ointment. If she doesn't like the taste, she may stop trying to lick.

P.S. When Brice was neutered, the vet suggested the e-collar. They had to pick momma up off the floor because she was laughing so hard. They couldn't keep a regular collar on him, so there was no chance for an e-collar. He had to be re-glued & stapled twice.

  5. I don't remember fussing with my stiches.. I did crawl under the fence on my belly the day after I came home, Mom about had a stroke! The fence man had to come and everything.. I didn't pop any stiches though.

  6. Oh man! Africa is due soon to be spayed. I am dreading it. We are waiting to hear from the breeder on when he recommends our puppy gets spayed. The Vet didn't seem too knowledgeable on our breed and I hear you can screw up their hormones and development. How old is Lucie? Any thoughts on this?

  7. My Mom and I were laughing about this and she told me about a little rescue guy she had named Eddie. He got newters and came home with the collar on. His Scottie brother Otis thought it was too wierd and pulled him around the house by the e-collar. It was a hectic time!

    Kisses,
    Stella

  10. I saw that comment about whether Lucie was spayed too early. Our golden girl was spayed just around 4/5 months. Our vet let us know when she thought it was time. Hmmm I never knew dogs had hind "thumbs." But spaying is great for a dog's heatlh.

  12. She can reach her legs with the inflatable doughnut around her head. Hehe! She will get used to the lampshade soon. Faith wears it quite often so she's very used to it.

  13. When Tommy had to wear his collar for a long time, the vet first gave him a low dose of regular tranquilisers and then switched him to homeopathic ones, to help keep him chilled as he healed. We've used Rescue Remedy on the kitties but it might not pack enough of a punch for this purpose.

    Hugs to the girls!

  21. Ahhhh, poor Lucy. :( That is a bummer that the inflatable one didn't work out as well. Hopefully, time goes quickly so she can get it off. :) Nala had her dewclaws removed before we even got her but I don't know if it is typically done earlier or later. It sounds painful.

Welcome baby Hailey, your family has grown nicely!
We're sending healing vibes and love to Lucie, why you had to have your back paws declawed, Lucie? None of us had!
And we're cheering Addie for becoming a loser, may you shed as many pounds as you wish!
Thanks for responding to my begging to send pawsitive healing vibes to baby Axl. Your visit, support and keeping your paws crossed for baby Axl means a lot to me, buddy!
    Love you

  25. Hmm, it looks like the inflatable collar didn't want to stay inflated? We had that problem with the first one and had to take it back to get a second one. It also looks like Lucie could perhaps figure out how to work the Velcro on the inflatable -- too smart!

  26. we are a bit behind in our reading. Poor Lucie - that awful lampshade. Hope things improve quickly for her.
