This heating pad which was plugged in!
While I was in the shower Sunday morning, out of all the toys and Nylabones on the floor that Hailey has to pick from she decided to eat my heating pad. When I found her she had both ends of the cord in front of her chewed clear through. What I didn't realize at the time was that she considered this heat pad a snack.
Sunday evening she threw up. I figured she picked up something outside. She has a fondness for bugs and dirt. Today when I was home for lunch she threw up again. At first I was puzzled as to what she had eaten. I saw tiny copper wires and what I thought was white plaster. Hailey was acting fine so I placed the evidence in a plastic bag and headed back to work. I showed it to my husband later and then it hit us. It was the heating pad! The white that I saw was plastic not plaster. This evening I noticed some more of the heating pad coming out the other end as well. Hopefully everything is out now but we are keeping a close eye on her. Hailey is one lucky wiener!
Does Hailey do the (what I call) the watch the treat go down to the ground, and then look at you like..what?
ReplyDeleteIf soo Bubbles does that, as well *eye roll*
I would try luring the treat very slowly, using a REALLLLY yummy treat such as, hot dogs, or cheese. Something she will find really hard to resist.
If she is still not following the treat, you might try rewarding her for following the treat at all. Say if she looks at the treat. "YES" and than treat, and sloowwwlyyy move that dooownn "Yes"treat, down a little lower "YES"treat. (A clicker would work instead of the yes as well)
Basically breaking down the above process into baby-steps. This something we are STILL working on with Bubbles. She doesn't get when she has to follow the treat around, when all these years people have just given her treats, so I'm having to really take time and be patient with her.
Wow this is long, I hope Hailey hasn't done anything too serious too her self! Good luck with her training!!
Yes, I would say she's very lucky. If it was plugged in, you'd think she would have at least gotten shocked if not worse. Maybe you need to Hailey proof your house? Hard to believe what some dogs will consider a snack... I'll stick to worms, thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Hailey! You be careful! Poor little thing.
ReplyDeletePoor Hailey! My mommy had a white bunny which loved to eat wires:-)Even plugged in. Once it went boooom and mommy saw he had burned mustages on one side hehe. But it didn't learn him a lesson.
ReplyDeleteI hope Hailey did;-)
Take care of yourself.

Hi, You Guys...
ReplyDeleteOh My...Hailey, you should only eat what your Mom gives you...
Eating other stuff can make you really sick...
I hope you are feeling better now...

Wow! Hailey certainly has eclectic tastes in food! Tommy sepcialises in eating frisbees and sticks of wood, which come out at, ahem... the other end. But spaniels have very solid GI tracts since they're hunting dogs.
ReplyDeleteBe careful in the future, little Hailey!

Uh-oh. Hailey, repeat after me: Plastic is not a food group!
ReplyDeleteI eat stuff I shouldn't too. So far everything has come out one way or the other.
ReplyDeleteI gave Mom a little scare last week when I ate some red beet skins that Dad thought he took far, far into the field. I peed red. Then my poo was magenta. That's when they knew I had eaten the beet skins.
Glad Hailey did not find her heating pad snack to be shocking.

Oh MY! Hailey is pretty lucky! I know it's hard to believe but I chewed a few cords when I was just a pup too! Lucky for me they weren't plugged in and I did not actually eat any of them! I hope she has all that yucky stuff out of her now and that she will stick to doggy food from here on out!
