Today we went for the ultrasound. They let Ron and I be back there with her during the procedure. Lucie was very good! Her organs look good, no tumors. But they found an aneurysm and said that her plumbing is not hooked up correctly. The internal medicine doctor called in a radiologist and they ran the complete ultrasound again. This time we were not invited to be back with her. Here is a sample of the doctors final finding at this point.
"She apparently has a vascular anomaly affecting the caudal vena cava, which is suspected to be congenital. It is unknown how long this aneurysm has been present, but it is suspected that it has slow formed since Lucie has compensated for its presence."
Her full report from the internal medicine specialist is below. Be warned that if you read it she is very blunt. No sugar coating here.
We have a list of tests and procedures that she wants to do on Lucie next. When I asked if this has anything to do with her prior symptoms it seemed as though she was pulling at straws to make a good connection. We are going to meet with our primary vet to get a second opinion. We want to make smart decisions that will be of value to the diagnosis instead of doing tests just to check them off a list. We love Lucie and will do everything we can to make sure she is healthy and happy!
It is just so hard to believe, especially when she is feeling great and eating dog food again. Her blood tests were all good. Cell counts all good. Right now she is 95% back to normal. Lucie was my brave little girl today. She made it through about 2 and a half hours of ultrasound with no complaints.
How is Lucie now? When we got home she ate dog food and then enjoyed a good playtime outside with Addie and Hailey. Right now, if you just met her you would not think there was anything wrong with her.
Lucie chased a squirrel up this tree!
All three girls just hanging out.
Lucie had fun prancing around the yard. They simply had a great afternoon!

ReplyDeleteI know it was probably overwhelming to hear that news!!! It is never easy to hear that there is something wrong with our babies!! Stay strong for her! You will know what to do next! maybe thinning her blood is a good idea-will that lesson the risk of an embolism?
It sounds like this is something that MOST people would never have found-you were very persistent and care so much for Lucie that you took her care beyond what most people do!!! She is so loved!!!!
Please let us know what you decided to do!! And enjoy every moment with all of your babies this Christmas!!!
With much love and thought and prayer!

Tests are tests and they are important but what you see is critical, too. If she is having fun and eating and comfortable - that is all that really matters in the long run. You are good parents, you will do all the right things.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to a some darling pooches who have brought us smiles and happiness throughout this past year. Your gentle ways and upbeat attitudes have been a source joy!

Merty Christmas! The results are blunt, but the fact that she is feeling better and acting like a dog is great. Many times one test leads to findings that are not related to the problem. Uncertain is another good thing, at least it's not bad. Some dogs and people live with things their entire lives. Sometimes it's not discovered until an autopsy. We were told that when my son was two. An ultrasound found only one kidney in his abdomen. Mom said, "You didn't know he only had one kidney?" Uh, No, Mom, do you know how many I have? His plumbing wasn't hooked up correctly either, he had sugery before he was two. Later I figured he was born with a urinary tract defect. A second opinion is smart. Lucie, you stay beautiful and keep feeling better everyday. I'll be praying you can put this behind you soon.
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth, I think the CT angiogram is necessary to see exactly what is going on with Lucie.
ReplyDeleteThe CT scan Prince had was invaluable, even though it was very bad news we now know exactly what is happening with his tumor.
We hope whatever is wrong wth Lucie can be fixed and we are sending tons of Sibe Vibes her way!!!
