Square Foot Garden: Eight Weeks

The flower in the lower left is growing nicely, looking forward to some blooming.  If all else fails I'll eat the flower.

Mint is spreading out, will be cutting and pruning soon

Cucumber has a lot of flowers on them but no baby cukes yet.

Pole beans are growing well but no pods yet

I think our leaf lettuce is a failed bit.  It grew to a total of like 1-2 inches and hasn't done anything since then.  I see a scorched earth and restart for that square in the near future

Finally, our tomatoes are appearing!  I was worried we wouldn't get anymore at the pace we were going, I don't know what happened but we have 4 baby tomatoes now.

Our first green bean...

harvested.

As you can see it's getting pretty hot here in Texas.

As Ron gives the garden a good soak, Lucie is headed for some shade.

Can you find Lucie?

Nap time!

  6. How are you managing your mint? After reading all the horror stories, DH decided there was no way it was going in.

  7. @Bailey
Good question as I'm starting to see some spreading to neighboring squares. In one instance I pulled it out like I would a weed but mostly I've just let it grow as its on the edges of the square and not interfering with the items planted there. I guess I could just cut it off at ground level too.

  8. That is cute how she is in the vine!

It seems like your garden is picking up a little - we will keep our paws crossed for a good harvest! I think it might be a good idea to try a different type of lettuce. :D
