Just One Day - June 11

Just one day. It doesn't seem like much time really. But when you are a dog or cat stuck at your local animal shelter, 24 hours might be all the time that you have to find a new home. I stumbled upon this event on Facebook that encourages animal shelters that are not no-kill to try it for one day, June 11. Heartbroken over so many adorable pups that have lost their lives at Fort Worth Animal Care and Control, I reached out to Mayor Betsy Price and to Fort Worth Animal Care and Control on Monday, April 30. Mayor Price responded to me communicating her support and the excellent news that FTWACC will be participating in this event! It may only be 1 day, a mere 24 hours, but to the desperate and lonely dog or cat at FTWACC it means extra networking time, it means extra time to catch the attention of that one person in the world that has been looking for them. It means FTWACC cares and wants to see more lives saved. In addition to having no animals euthanized on June 11, FTWACC will also have special offers for adoptions as well. When I have more information on the specials, I'll post it here.

Please visit Just One Day and see if your local animal shelter has signed up. If you don't see their name on the list contact them and ask them to participate. (FTWACC has not signed up yet on the website, this has all happened pretty quickly.)

From the Just One Day website:
On average, if each animal shelter in the USA adopts out or transfers to rescue groups an extra three animals on June 11, the USA can become a no kill nation, even if it is for Just One Day. And if we can do it then, we can also do it on June 12 for Just Another Day. . .

  2. An excellent idea!!! I wish more people would spay and neuter... It's so sad how many pups and kittehs get killed for no reason!

  3. I fully support this cause. Our local shelter is pro-active in getting the word out when they have animals available. Each week there is a list of animals in the shelter, if there are any animals in the shelter, in the local newspaper. Publication is free of charge. Most find homes. But then we don't have the numbers larger cities have.

  6. It's a start and it's starting to spread. Maybe one day people with refuse altogether to euthanize healthy doggies.
