Second/Third Night After TPLO Surgery

Second night was much better than the first. I have noticed that the pain med Gabapentin makes Addie pant and very thirsty. I spaced out this med and her Rimadyl differently on Sunday (Gabapentin: 6 am, 1 pm and 7 pm) which made for a great third night sleep for us all.

She feels stronger today as well. She is tolerating the cone and continues to be calm throughout the day. We have a good routine down.

Earlier today I noticed a little swelling in her ankle of the surgery leg. The position that she was sitting in made it hard to see very well. Checked it around 4:30 pm and the ankle is swollen a bit. This is new from yesterday. All incisions look good. I did a quick google search for this and a really helpful PDF came up from medvet for pets. More info is offered by Front Range as well. It looks like swelling in this area is normal between day 3-5 after surgery. Look's like Addie is right on schedule then.

  1. We're sorry we've missed the updates! We've been praying for you, Addie! And for your mama and dad. Somehow it's hard on the bipeds when we're hurting, too. We're glad last night went better and that you're feeling a bit stronger today. We send lots of love to all of you, and prayers for healing, restful sleep (for everyone!), and a great recovery. Hang in there, sweet girl!!!
