I'm Famous Today!

Look at me! I am the featured puppy on The Daily Puppy.

Ahhh, to be young. Not a care in the world and a mountain of toys to play with. I am the luckiest dog I know!

A Day in the Life of Addie

Addie is a busy girl. Especially for a 6 month old puppy!

5:45 a.m.
Wake up Mom. "We slept in today!"
Mad dash to the back door to go outside "Hold it, hold it, hold it, wait for the security system to be turned off, hold it, wait for light to be turned on, hold it..."

6:15 a.m.
Eat Breakfast
Addie doesn't like to eat her meals alone, it's a family affair. "So hungry, yummy!"

6:30 a.m.
Back outside

6:45 a.m.
Patiently wait while Mom gets ready for work. "Bark at Zoe, Bark at Zoe, Bark at Zoe, run around the house, destroy a roll of toilet paper, Bark at Zoe"

7:30 a.m.
Fun car ride to doggie day care. "I wear my red doggles and seat belt. I love to look at the people in other cars at stop lights! I make them laugh."

7:40 a.m.
Have the best day ever at doggie day care! "I play all day long with all of my friends. I LOVE everyone and LOVE when people pet me!"

5:30 p.m.
Ride home in the car. "I wear my red doggles and seat belt, but I'm too tired to do anything but lay down and relax, so I can get my second wind."

5:40 p.m.
Eat dinner. "BORING!"

6:00 p.m.
Play, play, play. Remove all water from water bowl. "I can see that dog at the bottom of the bowl, but he never gets out when the water is all gone." Drink water from floor because there is no water left in bowl.

7:00 p.m.
Obedience training. "See, I am a good dog. I can sit and heel and stay."

7:20 p.m.
"Run, run, inside the house, destroy another roll of toilet paper that I found, run, run, outside the house, run, run."

8:00 p.m.
Take a quick nap. "So tired, can't keep eyes open!" zzzzzz

8:15 p.m.
There is a banging on the back door. Someone is breaking in! "Ginormous barks, all the hair on my back stands up, growling, more big dog barks! Wait a minute. That's my Dad. WHAT IS HE DOING SCARING ME LIKE THAT!!! He seems pretty happy that I got all worked up. What's wrong with him?!"

8:20 p.m.
"Run, run, run. Run with my toy, run without my toy. Run with my toy, run without my toy."

9:28 p.m.
She's sound asleep on the kitchen floor. Finally.

Zoe & Addie

It's hard to believe that Zoe & Addie can peacefully share a water bowl. Now, it's not like this all the time, but they are really growing on each other. Zoe at 14 years old certainly can't keep up with a 6 month old puppy, but they have their moments. She was not thrilled when Addie came to stay, but has learned to love her.

Let's Play

Addie had a wonderful play day today! She got to play with her BFF Arwen.

National Dog Day

Today Addie has a play date with her new BFF Arwen. Arwen is a cute little girl that was hit by a car. She was in pretty bad shape when she arrived at our Vet's office. Her family could not afford the procedure's to make her better, and asked that she be put down. The loving staff at my Vet office and my Vet just couldn't do it her because she is such a sweet girl, so she is a clinic dog now that has been looking for a home for 3 months. Her injuries are all healed up now, although that poor baby will always have a limp.

My Vet has a huge dog park that they own, so today we are going to play with her. Addie also has a fun doggie bag for her full of treats and prizes! Addie and Arwen met at doggie daycare that is held at my Vet office and have become great friends. (Husband alert: Ron don't read this next line.) If they continue to get along so well, who knows what the future may hold. :) We will take lots of pictures and some video of their play date to share.

National Dog Day serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day - for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for a child who is disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage, saving their lives and often grieving the dead and dying they cannot save. For more information about National Dog Day please visit their website.

As far as Texas goes, some Sonic's are recognizing National Dog Day with something fun for dogs, but none of them are near us in Texas. Outside of that I found a few animal shelters that are encouraging adoptions today. If anyone has any fun Dog Day events to share, I would love to hear them.

Have a fur filled Saturday!!

Older, but wiser?

Reminiscing with Addie

A lot has happened in my short little life! It all began one day when I went for my first car ride away from the farm. I ended up on a plane to Dallas. I spent a total of 4 hours in the air and had a layover in the middle for 3 hours. That sure was a long day!

Then I met the nicest people in the world! My new family! They had a million toys for me to play with and a playroom all to my self that was completely puppy proof so I couldn't hurt myself.

Now, I know that I look like an angel, but let me tell you, I am no Saint! These are the things that drive my family CRAZY:

•I shred EVERYTHING that I can find. Toilet paper and paper towels are my favorites.
•I love to carry the big water bowl around in my mouth all through the house.
•I love to eat ice cubes (my big girl teeth really hurt when they came in) and carry them around in my bowl all through the house.
•I love to play in my water bowl and then drink the water off of the kitchen floor.
•I love to eat every bug that I can find out side, whether I have to dig it up or not. Beetles are not my favorite, though.
•I enjoy finding cat poop in the yard and rolling around in it! Sometimes when my family can’t get to me fast enough I will even eat it! My family thinks it is disgusting and these acts always results in a bath for me.
•I love to chew on anything that I can. Remote controls and shoes are my favorites.
•I love to find and chew on every rock I can find in the yard.
•I love to herd Zoe, my older Dachshund sister. I bark at her, bounce all around her and bite her (not too hard). Zoe doesn’t like it very much.

With a list like this, I bet you are wondering what the stupidest things are that I have ever done. Here they are in no particular order:

•I have run or slid into countless walls because I have been running around the house too fast
•I have pushed Zoe over the edge a few too many times and have had chunks taken out of my nose.
•I have knocked the glasses right off my Vet’s face because I was sooo happy to see him! He loves to get down on the floor and play with me. He is the best!
•I have eaten things that should not be eaten that resulted in trips to the Vet. But that’s ok, because I love the people there.
•While riding the car I closed the window on my own head. Since it was on a Sunday morning, I got to go visit an animal hospital after that. The people were real nice there, but I got so bored I fell asleep.

So, what lessons have I learned… hhhmmmm. None that I can think of!
Kisses

A Fur-raising Experience

A note from Addie: Ahhh yes. Sunday morning. I get to ride in the blazer for the donut run. Maybe I'll get a donut hole. I love those! I also LOVE to stick my head out the window during the car ride! I'm wearing my seat belt so what trouble could I possibly get in. Let me put my feet up here next to the window so I can take a better look. Wait a minute. Something isn't right. Wait. MY HEAD! OUCH!

That's right. Addie closed the window on her own head! She only gave herself about a 2 second pinch before I was able to release it. The blazer doesn't have child proof windows. :( In light of this unfortunate event, riding in the car with her head sticking out is not going to happen. Not only do I have to worry about her closing the window on her head, but also something could fly into her eyes, ears, nose, and mouth!

After it happened, I checked her out to see if there was any damage done. I didn't see anything, but she did have a tiny cough. I took her directly to the Animal Emergency room to make sure she was OK. The very nice Vet said that she was perfectly fine. She said her head may hurt from the pinch, but that she was fine.

Now I bet you are asking yourself, did Addie learn her lesson? After it happened, I put the window all the way down. Addie shook her head and coughed and then stuck her head right back out the window to look around. I then moved her away from the window and closed the window entirely.

Our First Ever Award

Eva, the sweetest dog ever, gave us our very first award!

We now must give the award to 5 furiends. Four of these furiends must be dedicated followers of our blog (would be nice if we were that dedicated too). One should be a new blogger and live in a different part of the world. Each awardee must link back to whomever gave the award.

Since we are relatively new to blogging, our furiend picks are all new. Here are the blogs we absolutely adore:

To Ludo Van Puppy the cutest Sheltie puppy we have seen!

To Susie Pearl we have a soft spot for hot dogs! My big sister is a 14 year old standard dachshund.

To Biggie Z we wish we lived closer so we could play with you. Sweet boy!

To Champ the best, and only, Great Pyrenees on Dogs with Blogs! Addie hopes to be your size some day. We will just have to wait and see.

To Fenway who has the sweetest face around! Border Collie's rule!

Enjoy all of these wonderful sites!
Thank you!

Addie's First Day at Doggie Daycare

Today was Addie's first day at Doggie Daycare! She had a blast! I got only good reports. She had play dates all day with dogs her size. When I arrived to pick her up she was ending a play session with a bunch of other dogs. I watched her mingling with the crowd. I was felt so proud! It looked like she was behaving herself, but I needed confirmation from the staff.

Since Addie is getting bigger, and not sleeping as much during the day, I am trying to keep her active (and out of trouble) which means the "Addie Cam" is not on as much. Doggie Daycare is our way of keeping her active while we are at work. Our vet just started doing doggie daycare. They have a large dog park and a wonderful staff! I wouldn't trust anyone else.

I would like to send a special thanks all the "Addie Cam" viewers! Please check back in from time to time. She has a bunch more growing to do!

Aug 6, 2008

Addie had her stitches taken out yesterday and she is doing fine. She is at 45 pounds now at 5 1/2 months old. Her nipping and biting with us is finally slowing down. But, confrontations with Zoe are on the rise. Zoe is as patient as she can be.

Addie starts her beginner training classes at the end of this month at Petswest. She may be a little surprised at what is expected of her. No more passing the puppy and socializing with the other dogs. Based on how her training goes, she will have the Canine Good Citizen certification to pass and then the therapy dog evaluation at a minimum of one year old. Once she gets the puppy craziness out, I believe that she will make a wonderful therapy dog!
