Square Foot Garden: Fifteen Weeks

Wha happen to garden?

Texas is what happened.  Every day for weeks of temps over 100 degrees.  The garden was watered every day but that sun just beat down on the plants and burned them out.

Cute little ear of corn.

This Grass Hopper really likes our garden.  He felt comfortable enough to molt here.  We saw him here a few days ago eating the green bean plants, we figured since we didn't get anything out of them at least something would so we let him be.

Lot of lessons learned this first try.  I plan on trying it again next year but definitely planting a lot earlier in the spring, we got started a little late this year....at least for Texas.
Maybe some more shade too.  I'm still going to try planting some potatoes for a fall or late fall harvest.

Oh No! Poor garden. Don't look so sad Haley, there will be potatoes to dig up.

Tami is going to be in Dallas next weekend to see some musical group with her friends. She asked me to come along, but it is just too hot for it to be fun, so think I'll wait until later in the year. On an up note, we just had a cool front come through. Temps dropped into the high 80's. Feels like fall. lol

Poor Hailey! We are so sorry your garden died. Your right!! It's the Texas heat. Sometimes Mommy wishs she could just pack us up and go to the North Pole for the summer.

Wanna come?

Sorry about the heat. We are just starting to get some produce from our garden.

We stopped growing pea pods because we don't have a cool enough spot in our yard.

Oh nooo.. your poor beautiful garden!! Actually this is what happens to our plants that mom has on her bedroom balcony too... the months from June-Ag are the hottest and where the sun is the strongest, so our plants get 'fried' no matter how much mom waters them.. :(
