Please help my friends!

October is Adopt-a-Dog/Shelter Dog Month
Two of Addie's closest friends, Arwen and Scrufty are looking for forever homes. They are the sweetest dogs that you will ever meet! They have overcome so much in their short little lives. Arwen was hit by a car and brought to our Vet, Family Pet Care, by a Good Samaritan. Scrufty was left at the front door of the Vet office when he was just a tiny little furbaby. They are both doing great and are ready to move into their forever homes. Can you help us?

We are wondering what mix breeds these puppies are. Any ideas?

Addie met Arwen and Scrufty at doggie daycare that is held at my Vet's office. They play together all the time and are so much fun to be around! To meet these adorable pooches, please contact Chandra at Family Pet Care, 817-451-7387, info@myfamilypetcare.com or leave a comment and I will provide you with all of the information.

Don't worry Arwen, we will help you and Scrufty find forever homes!

Know of any events going on in your area? Please share them with us.
The ASPCA is holding a photo contest for the best-dressed dog in honor of Adopt-a-Shelter Dog month.

The Wiener Dog Derby

Today we attended the 9th Annual Wiener Dog Derby in Azle, Texas. There were contests and wiener dog races. Zoe entered the "oldest wiener" contest. At 14 years of age, we thought she might have a good chance of winning.

Zoe is not the fastest wiener, so we have a dog friendly backpack that she has used for years. It is like a chick magnet for my husband. All the ladies just flock around him when Zoe is in there!

Addie came to support her older sister. This was also a good test to see how well she would do in large crowds. She did great! While the majority of parents asked first if she was friendly, we still had some very young children run up to pet and pat her. When little children are around, I try to always keep my eyes on her, but she did just fine. Addie dispensed a lot of kisses and enjoyed the extra attention.

The contests were held first. The best pet costume was awarded to a little mini doxie in a skunk outfit. She was just adorable. Next was the owner and pet costume contest. The winner was a lady that dressed as Goldie Locks with her three "bears" (Doxies dressed in bear costumes).

The last contest was the oldest Dachshund. The competition was fierce (she was the only entry) but she stole the show in her adorable pouch and claimed the trophy! My husband placed her backpack flat on the ground so she could get out and walk around, but she was not leaving her comfortable nest.

Zoe with her award.

This was so much fun, but there was one shy group.

Addie's Training: I have to do what now?

The ride to training.

Addie is a few weeks into her beginner training classes. We are up to long sits, downs, and stays. Lots of heeling and sitting. We added a new "u-turn" this week, which is a turn into your dog (the opposite of the about turn).

I have trained dogs before, but had not seen the u-turn. It seems as though I am always in the wrong place when this one is called out by the trainer, which is too close to the wall. So, I end up running into it. LOL

Addie is a character in her classes. Outside of class, I have been teaching her fun stuff like "shake" and "high five." I have been teaching her how to wave as well. I didn't even think about the similarities between the hand signals that I use for wave and stay. So, now that we are really working on stay, Addie wants to wave at me. LOL

Our goal continues to be to pass the Canine Good Citizen test and then move on to therapy dog work. For 7 months old, I believe she is coming along well. She sure does have a lot of puppy left in her and I'm OK with that!

Around the Neighborhood...

Every day I go for a walk. It's a really long walk but I LOVE it!

This is my friend Lady. Her parents adopted her a few years ago. She had a rough life, but she is in the best home now!

We are so happy to see each other that our tails are going crazy!

It was getting dark out when we took these pictures so they didn't turn out so good, but we will take more soon so you can see how beautiful she is!

These are newts or salamanders. Aren't they COOL! You can see through their skin! They only come out at night and there are about a million of them on this building near where we walk. A few of them look evil with their glowing eyes!

Now, even though I LOVE to go for a walk... my two favorite things are:

Zoe

And a good stick!

Friends, go out and find a good stick to play with today!

P.S. Special Bark Out Loud to my BFF Ruby for this wonderful award

I would like to pass it to:
Our bestest friends Sophy, River, and The Three Musketeers

And another special Bark Out Loud to my great friend Darcy for this neat award

I would like to pass it to:
Our neatest friends BFF Ruby, Danes Down Under, and Life inside the Fence Patrol

A Conversation with Arwen: The Stick

Let's share this stick...

I got the stick!

There, there. May I please see the stick?

I don't want to share this stick!

She can have the stick.

Addie and Arwen met at Doggie Daycare. Addie is twice the size of Arwen, but is truly a gentle giant when they play together. Arwen chooses the toy and Addie follows, graciously giving up whatever the item is so the Arwen can win.

My BFF Ruby and a Young Zoe

My BFF Ruby gave me a wonderful award!!

Thank you very much Ruby!!

The Proximity Award
"We all like blogs. Their objectives are to show the wonders and to make friendships; there are people who are not interested when we give an award, and in this way contribute to cut those bows; we want that they are cut or they propagate? Then we will try to pay more attention to them! We must give it to other bloggers that must do the same and put this text."

I would like to pass this award to Midnight and our lost friends Holly and Zac (we Just LOVE their blog, we won't loose you again, pawmise)!

Thank you very much Ruby!!

Kisses
Addie

P.S. Ruby reminds us of a young Zoe.

Bark-n-Bumble

My bumble ball is my favorite toy! When I turn it on it bounces every which way and drives me crazy! When I was a young puppy, I would bark at it constantly. I don't feel the need to bark at it much anymore, but it is still just as much fun to play with!

I even play with it in my sleep!

I was a Bad Dog: The Death of Zoe's Favorite Pillow

A picture says a thousand words...

But the video says everything...

Why did I do it? Who can tell.

I went to doggie daycare on Thursday, but for some reason I couldn't sleep that night. Mom stayed up with me while I ran around and destroyed a few of my toys. You can see parts of those in the video too. By 6:30 a.m. she was real tired and took her eyes off of me for about 5 minutes. That's when I found Zoe's pillow. It is typically kept out of my reach because they know I would love to get my paws on it. It didn't take much to break the pillow and then I had some fun!

Do I regret what I did? No, I don't. I have been patiently waiting for the opportunity to destroy that pillow.

The consequences.
It took Mom an hour to vacuum up those tiny little beads that stuck to absolutely everything. They are still around and probably will be for a long time.

My little stunt also ended up with a trip to the Vet for me. See, I got them in my eyes. Mom tried to get them all out, but she needed additional help. I got my eyes flushed... not pleasant. My wonderful Vet said my eyes looked fine. No damage done.

When I got home from doggie daycare, I presented my final surprise. See, Mom hadn't even thought that I probably ate some of them. Well, she realized this when she was cleaning up the yard this evening. LOL

I was told that Zoe would use that pillow when she takes a nap in the living room. She has been using it for many years. She's not going to be happy when she finds out.

Take it from me. Don't tear open a squishy pillow. It will get you into a lot of trouble!

Double Take: Meet my Twin

This is Mack. Mack's mom saw my picture on the Daily Puppy and could hardly believe it!

The resemblance is uncanny

Here is Mack's story told by her mom. "Five years ago this December our doorbell rang. When we opened the door, standing there was a couple who had been out walking in the neighborhood when they found two abandoned fur balls – a black one and a white one. They were flea invested, skinny, shivering, but still cute as can be. We took them, cleaned them up, fed them, and took them to the vet. He said they looked to be about 6 weeks old. We asked if he thought they were border collies, and he said they had something bigger in them and warned us to prepare to have a very large dog if we intended to keep one of them. We found a home for the black one and kept the white one as we had lost one of our two Cavalier KC Spaniels only two weeks before (she was 11 yrs). Our daughter, Kate, an avid Longhorn fan, named our new puppy Mack (after Mack Brown).

My husband had a border collie while growing up, and our children had a border collie for most of their growing up years as well. Mack seemed to be “colored up” like a border collie, but the texture of her fur, her funny, curly tail, and her dew claws made it a puzzle. Also, her litter mate was black with white markings. We did some Internet research and asked our trainer, and all came to the conclusion that she must be part Pyrenees as well.

Mack’s a great companion and part of the family. She jogs with us, hangs out with us, serves as a great home security system, plays with (and sometimes bullies) her sister (a Cavalier), etc. (She’s definitely Alpha of the two.) She is very protective – almost to a fault because she’s not very hospitable to a new person until she gets to know them. (I hear that is also a Pyrenees trait.) However, she is very loving and sweet to all of us and to family, friends, and neighbors. The little kids on the block love her, and she allows them to hang all over her.

Mack at a year and a half.

Mack's puppy fur was snow white with black markings, whereas her adult fur has a little black in the undercoat, and she developed more black “freckles” as she has grown up. So her coloring has remained more border collie-ish, but the texture of her fur is more like a Pyrenees, except not quite as thick. We think she’s beautiful. While out walking, we have people ask us all the time what breed she is and comment on how pretty “he” is (everyone thinks she’s male). She weighs about 80-85 lbs."

I am so happy to have found my twin! And to know that she is located in East Texas, just like me, is wonderful. I'll be checking in on my new sister from time to time to see how she doing and to show her how I've grown. I bet her mom could provide some valuable tips on how to deal with some of my puppy crazies.

Sunday Morning Playtime!

On Sunday mornings my parents go for a bike ride (they say they are trying to get in shape) and leave me all alone. Well, Zoe is in the house, but she likes to sleep when they leave. When they get home I am a bundle of energy and ready to play! This morning when they got back, we ran around the yard with my favorite thing... a rock. I'm pretty easy to please.

Let's take a break!

I don't have a big tongue. Do I?

LOL! I drooled all over my dad's arm! He doesn't like that.

I had a fun morning!
